BAMA is planning a new event for members on the 25th June 2025, at the offices of Make UK, London - BAMA's Regulatory Day.
This will involve a morning of presentations by representatives from Government Departments and organisations, followed by an afternoon discussing those areas of greatest importance to the Aerosol Industry, including Extended Producer Responsibility, Recycling Assessment Methodology, and Environmental Sustainability Agreements.
We have invited representatives from the Department of Business and Trade (DBT), Office for Products Safety and Standards, to present to us the latest on the Product Regulation and Metrology Act. A major piece of legislation which will allow DBT/OPSS to use Statutory Instruments to update regulations they have responsibility for.
BAMA has a Primary Authority Partnership with Hertfordshire Trading Standards. You will hear about the work the authority does enforcing regulations, the benefits of having a Primary Authority Partnership, and how you can build similar links to your own Trading Standards Authority
Defra is in the final stages of rolling out Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and has created Pack UK to oversee and manage this new regulation. Part of EPR is a Recycling Assessment Methodology (RAM) and we have invited Pack UK to explain more about how this will be applied and how companies should use it to understand the fees they will have to pay under EPR.
Chemical Regulations such as UK REACH and GB CLP are enforced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). UK chemical regulations are still under development. However, aerosol manufacturers should be aware of all of the existing rules they must comply with and HSE will help you understand these.
Competition laws exist to ensure that companies do not manipulate markets to the detriment of consumers. However, there are some circumstances where businesses working collectively can be to the benefit of consumers, the companies involved, and for the benefit of the environment. To help with this, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) have recently updated rules around how companies can work more closely and create environmental sustainability agreements. The CMA will tell you about the details behind this and how industry can work within these rules.
