FEA 602 - Filled Aerosol Packs - Rapid test of the tightness of valve mechanisms and their attachment to containers
The seal integrity of the valve mechanism of a filled aerosol pack as well as of the mounting cup closure must be correct and controlled by the formulator and the manufacturer. They will have the choice between a rapid method, the object of the present standard, and a more accurate long term method, described in the standard FEA 603.
FEA 603 - Filled Aerosol Packs -Test of long term preservation and measurement of loss of weight.
This method is recommended for the long-term testing of the closure and the storage of all aerosol products in metal, glass and plastic containers.
FEA 604 - Filled Aerosol Packs - Measurement of Internal Pressure
This method is recommended for the determination of the true pressure of finished aerosol packs which are to be checked 100% during the production process in the filling operation.
FEA 605 - Measurement of density of aerosol formulation.
This method is suitable for all aerosol formulations which, on standing, produce a visible liquid-vapour interface.
FEA 606 - Water Bath Testing - Verification of conformity with legislation
This method may be used on any production line with all types of aerosol dispensers filled on that line.
FEA 608 - Filled aerosol packs – Foam flammability test
Replaced by Annex 6.3.3 of ADD
FEA 609 - Filled aerosol packs – Measurement of the ignition distance of the spray jet.
Replaced by Annex 6.3.1 of ADD
FEA 610 - Filled aerosol packs – Enclosed space ignition test (Drum test).
Replaced by Annex 6.3.2 of ADD
FEA 615 - Glass aerosol containers – Drop test
This test is designed for evaluating the comparative resistance to impact of a given model of an glass aerosol container by letting samples fall from different heights on to a standard surface under controlled conditions.
FEA 621 - Aerosol Containers - Measurement of internal pressure resistance of empty containers without valves
This standard describes a method to
1) verify that the aerosol containers meet the test pressure
2) measure the actual distortion pressure
3) verify that the aerosol containers meet the calculated burst pressure
4) measure the actual bursting pressure.
FEA 623 - Filled Aerosol Packs - Simplified method to determine mechanical resistance of metal and plastic containers fitted with valve.
This method enables the measure of the mechanical resistance (under the effect of hydraulic pressure) of metal and plastic containers with a valve clinched or (externally) crimped in place on the container.
FEA 641 - Aerosol gaskets – Test for material selection
All successful aerosol product work requires a good knowledge of the gasket materials and their interaction with the complete aerosol product.
FEA 642 - Aerosol Gaskets – Olfactive control test
This standard describes a method of control on receipt of gaskets compared to a standard batch being previously approved.
FEA 643 - Filled aerosol packs - Measurement of discharge rate
Replaced by ILC Guideline
FEA 644 - Filled aerosol packs - Evaluation of aerosol sprays
This method describes a simple vertical analyser designed to record the size and shape of an aerosol spray and also to provide a guide to the size and distribution of droplets within a spray pattern.
FEA 646 - Filled aerosol packs - Resistance to a top load force
This standard describes such a test method which can be used for a pre-check of prototypes before further tests are performed as required under the dangerous goods legislation.
FEA 647 - Plastic Aerosol - Technical Requirements
This standard applies to plastic aerosol dispensers within the definition of Article 2 of the Aerosol Dispensers Directive 75/324/EEC.
Both specific and general requirements for materials, construction, filling and performance characteristics are specified to ensure that integrity and pressure resistance of plastic aerosol dispensers are guaranteed throughout the aerosol life on the market. These requirements are additional to the legislative requirements.
FEA 648 - Aerosol valve diptubes - Measurement of (a) diptube length, (b) diptube growth and (c) diptube curvature
The diptube is a vital component of an aerosol valve. Selecting and measuring the length and curvature of the diptube is critical to the correct functioning of an aerosol product.
FEA 650 - Measurement of the Vacuum draw on a Vacuum Sealed Container fitted with a Valve
This test method is suitable for measuring the level of vacuum achieved in all vacuum aerosol containers.
FEA 651 - Metal aerosol containers and valves – Assessment of internal coating coverage
This is a comparative test intended to indicate the integrity of internal coatings in metal aerosol containers. The test is also applicable to the external surface of a metal aerosol container and to the valve mounting cup surfaces with adaptation.
