The purpose of this guide is to provide a very brief summary of the key UK regulations that may apply to aerosol dispensers placed on the GB market.

The purpose of this guide is to provide summary advice on the requirements to be met when placing aerosol dispensers on the market in Great Britain.

With the UK’s departure from the EU, the UK Aerosol Dispenser Regulations 2009 were amended to directly write, with some key changes, the text of the EU Aerosol Dispenser Directive (75/324/EEC) into law for Great Britain (i.e., England, Scotland, and Wales).  This Guide sets out the scope of the UK Regulations as they apply in Great Britain. It explains the principles of the legislation and offers advice on how to comply with the requirements, including selection of container and propellants, contents declaration, labelling and compliance marking, as well as providing some detailed advice on flammability classification and the hazard analysis.  The Guide is also relevant for Northern Ireland.

The Module covers the consumer labelling of aerosols placed on the UK market and includes aerosols intended for the general public as well as for industrial and institutional use. The Module sets out requirements for Good Practice (including those for special products); recommendations for best practice (voluntary labelling); supply of Safety Data Sheets and Poison Centre Information; and guidance on advertising codes of practice. NOTE: This module does not cover any aspects of outer/transit labelling requirements, which will appear in Module 5 (Transport of Aerosols).
